Let the Journey Begin

My name is Mary. Maybe some of you can relate to me? I am 33 years old, a wife, a mother of a toddler, and also work full-time. I want to provide the best for my family and be a good role model for my daughter. I want more energy to chase after my daughter, lose some extra weight, and strengthen my core. I believe that you don't have to have the lean, lithe body of a dancer or be an athlete in order to practice Pilates. I truely feel it can have a positive affect on my life. This blog will follow my journey. My Pilates Journey.

I was first introduced to Pilates about 3 or 4 years ago when I took mat classes at a local studio. I had done group exercise (mostly some sort of aerobics) before, but I always left the session saying to myself "I couldn't keep up with the instructor and I am just not coordinated enough." Immediately I knew Pilates was different. I was encouraged to work at my own pace and modify a pose to fit my body and ability. I was thrilled to finally find an exercise that I felt like I didn't have to already be in the best physical shape to participate in.

At the studio, I can remember walking past the reformers and thinking I want to try that. I had taken one reformer class and enjoyed the experience, the exercise didn't feel like work, it felt more like common sense, just a natural movement of my body (but with the added resistance of the springs.)

The journey of motherhood changed my life. If you have children you'll understand. Now that my daughter is older I want to start back into Pilates and focus on training using the reformer, Cadillac and mat exercises. Joseph Pilates once said, "you'll feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty, and have a new body in 30."
